“Suffer -- For Purpose” 1 Peter 4. March 26, 2006 Terry Alesnik. Xenos Christian Fellowship “Freedom Through the Love of Christ”

1 Peter 4:1-2 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2) so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

Why Did Christ Suffer in the Flesh ??

1 Peter 4:1-2 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2) so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. Why Did Christ Suffer in the Flesh ??

Christ Suffered for Purpose 1 Pet 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Christ Suffered for Purpose 1 Pet 2:21-24 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, 22) who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23) and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24) and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

Christ Suffered for Purpose 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. John 6:38-39 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39) "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.

1 Peter 4:1-2 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2) so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

We Share His Purpose 2 Cor. 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

We will be Persecuted John 15:18-21 "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19) "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. 20) "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21) "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me. 2 Tim 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

We will be Persecuted No One Willingly Suffers for Nothing. We Will Persevere thru Almost Anything to Pursue Purpose. Christ was Persecuted for His Purpose. We Will Be Persecuted for His Purpose.

For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets.
