Feb Absorber/coil instrumentation and controls  Subsystems Absorbers RF Magnets  Monitoring/safety  Data acquisition: Information on system state:  dE/dx density  Magnetic field  RF field  Calibration: Magnetic fields:  Offline field maps  Fringe fields  Survey

Feb MICE Absorber/Coil Readout  What is necessary/ desirable? (physics calibration) Temperature inside the the absorber/vacuum Pressure on the LH2 outlet Optical occlusion methods (laser or non-laser) Temp/flow on Helium  Controls (questions of data acquisition ) LH2 Safety systems (subset of monitoring describing the “state” of the system) Magnetic field measurements: currents power supply location monitors RF: power  Design considerations (depends on the final dimensions, routs, ports) LH2/flammable gas safety Clearance and strain relief Feedthroughs to outside electronics Noise cancellation/shielding

Feb Electronics CX-1030-SD Cernox RTD sensors (12)  -10  /K at 20K (estimated from plots)  Better suited for lower temperatures  Recommended for use in magnetic fields (B<19T)  Rad hard CX-1050-SD Cernox RTD sensors (24)  -70  /K at 20K (estimated)  Fermi “favorite” Also  TG-120PL GaAlAs diodes (4) -180mV/K at 4.2 K for B < 5 T, but no longer claimed to be rad hard… Common probes for magnets and absorbers

Feb Signal transfer Wire+Shielding Concerns  Cable plant into solenoid Shielded-twisted pairs (two pairs per Cernox) –Shield drains carried from Lakeshore(s) to sensors (not grounded) Grounding –Details depend on overall MICE grounding scheme  Common mode (surges) due to magnets Need to protect electronics without burning barriers  Noise/sensitivity issues  Channel Counts

Feb Feedthroughs Vacuum compatible, electrically insulated  Have to decide pin configuration based on 2, 4 wire readouts  MDC Vacuum Products Corp Vacuum/air Cryo/air Temp  Port through LH2 or vacuum
