University of Southern California Enterprise Wide Information Systems Getting Started in R/3 Instructor: Richard W. Vawter

University of Southern California Objectives Describe how to access and logon to the R/3 4.0B system. Explain the basic features and functions of the R/3 4.0B window. Describe how to access to on-line help in R/3.

University of Southern California Getting Started in R/3 Start  Programs  SAP Frontend 4.0B  K1 or K2 as appropriate for your lab

University of Southern California R/3 System Logon Enter the appropriate client for your lab (e.g. 401, 402…) Enter your UserID (it will be the same as your University user name. Enter the password ‘init’ for your initial password (the asterisks will remain). Enter ‘en’ for “English” language usage. Click on the Enter button or the Enter button on your keyboard.

University of Southern California Changing Your Password ‘init’ was an initial password given to you. The system will now have you change this immediately. Type in a password of your choice in the dialog box provided. The password must be greater than 3 characters in length and cannot be made up of all the same letters/numbers. And, your password cannot be the same as your userid. Case of your characters does not matter. Re-type your new password in the second dialog box. Click on the Enter button or the Enter key on your keyboard.

University of Southern California SAP Window Menu bar Title bar Layout menu (customizing display) Function toolbar Command field Status bar Session number Application toolbar Enter button Help Exit session Client No.Server BackCancel

University of Southern California Common Toolbar Buttons Execute Enter Save Back Exit Cancel Field Help Page Scroll Execute request, or compile certain information. Will put a load on the database and system. Enter information. Also good for checking information before execution. Save the information or submit a transaction to be saved on the DB. Back will return you to the previous screen. Exit will return you to the previous menu session or log you off from the main menu session. Change / display switches between the edit mode and the display only mode. Cancels your transaction without affecting info in the database. Help accesses the R/3 field documentation. Page Scroll buttons move you to other pages of information. Change / display

University of Southern California The R/3 Menu Hierarchy The R/3 System has the following menu hierarchy: 1.Main menu level (Field) 2.Application level (Function) 3.Task level (Transaction)   

University of Southern California Using the Command Field If you routinely go to the same task daily, it would be simpler to use the Command field than proceed through the menu hierarchy. First, from within the task window you wish to use, identify the four digit transaction code for the task (System  Status…) Then, when you wish to return to the task, enter the transaction code (/nxxxx) in the Command field and press Enter. Doing so will take you directly to the task.  /nva 01

University of Southern California Getting Started with the R/3 System Begin the Getting Started feature in R/3 by following the path: Help  Getting Started The initial screen of Getting Started appears.

University of Southern California Getting Started… The Initial Screen: This introduction is part of the R/3 documen- tation and you are encouraged to read it ! You can read about such topics as: The basics Logging on and off Getting around Typical tasks Getting help

University of Southern California The R/3 Library The R/3 Library contains information for all R/3 components. You use the R/3 library to access information about the Basis and application components. You can also use it to access the R/3 glossary. The R/3 Library will, perhaps be, your most important tool within the R/3 help system !

University of Southern California On-line Help Field Level Help Definitions and descriptions Possible values or matchcodes Help Menu R/3 Library (on-line library of R/3) Extended help (step-by-step instructions for tasks) Glossary (definitions of terms) Right Mouse button Function key dialog box Valid screen commands 

Multiple Sessions System  Create Session When you want to work on more than one task at a time in the R/3 System, you “Create a new session”. You can open up to six sessions and do a different task, or even the same task, in each “Session Window”. Multiple sessions enable you to: Perform multiple transactions or, for example find key information while in a live session. You can open a session at any time and from any screen in the system. Notice the session number displayed

University of Southern California Message Capabilities in R/3 You can send messages to others in the R/3 system. When sending a message to someone currently logged on, a notice of it’s arrival will immediately appear on the user’s screen if you specify ‘Express’. If a message is sent to some- one not currently logged on, that person will receive a notice that a message is currently being held in their inbox the next time they log on.
