Founded in 1760 In the center of town is an oak tree that was recorded in General William Lane's diary during the American Revolutionary War. On its eastern side is engraved the letters “WL” On December 13, 1776, General Charles Lee was captured by the British in his room in town. Lee had ranked next to Washington in command.
