Mobile IP Regional Registration Ashutosh Sharma CS401A Spring 2002

Mobile IP Regional Registration Agent Advertisement - FA must include its Network Access Identifier (NAI) in agent advertisement message. - By comparing FA NAI with the domain part of its on NAI, MN determines whether it is in home domain.

Signaling

The complete signaling cycle: HHR—AMR—HAR– HAA– AMA– HHA HHR – HA handover request AMR – AA – Mobile Node request HAR – Home-Agent-MIP-Request HAA – Home-Agent-MIP-Answer AMA – AA-Mobile-Node-Answer HHA – HA handover answer

Home Agent Handover Registration with old HA - Home Address the old home address - HA address the old HA address - COA Care of address

Home Agent Handover Mobility Agent

HA handover

1. MN sends HHR message to the advertising FA 2. FA sends AMR message to the AAA server 3. AAA server assigns a MA for the MN and sends HAR message to the MA 4. MA sends back HAA message to the AAA server 5. The AAA server sends back AMA message to the FA 6. The FA sends HHA message to the MN 7. The MN sends the home registration with the old HA to the MA 8. The MA forwards the home registration request to the old HA 9. The MN performs DNS update with the server of the MN

Migration of the MN after HA Handover

Further Migration of the MN after HA handover MN sends regional registration request to the MA MA relays the registration request to the GFA MN migrates again and registers the new COA with the MA for the new home address and all the previous home addresses by specifying the Previous Home Address Extension in the registration request
