Towers Rain Garden Project Team Environmental Leadership Award Winner 2005

President Austin presents Mike Dietz and Dr. Jack Clausen with a "Special Projects" Environmental Leadership Award Shown (left to right) are Mike Dietz (Natural Resources Management & Engineering graduate student), President Austin, and Dr. Jack Clausen (Natural Resources Management & Engineering Department). Additional members of the Towers Rain Garden Team include John Warner (Facilities - Design, Planning & Construction Management Department) and Dr. John Alexopoulos (Plant Science Department). Members of this team understood the environmental challenges of stormwater management in the context of UConn 2000, and seized an opportunity to design, construct and plant the first rain garden on a Connecticut campus. Complete with educational signage, this rain garden remains the first milestone on UConn's path to sustainable, low-impact development.

Towers Year of Completion: 2004 Thanks to Jack Clausen and Mike Dietz, from the Department of Natural Resources Management & Engineering, rain gardens have become an integral part of the sustainable design strategy of the University.
