The “Blended Librarian” “ We define the ‘blended librarian’ as an academic librarian who combines the traditional skill set of librarianship with the information technologist’s hardware/software skills, and the instructional or educational designer’s ability to apply technology appropriately in the teaching- learning process.” Steven J. Bell and John Shank College & Research Libraries News – July/August 2004

Libraries need to collaborate with faculty, administrators, and information technologists to embrace this new model. SPARC ®, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources CoalitionSPARC ®

Collaboration Interoperability with many other campus systems. e.g., payroll/HR, Registrar, remote access, etc. Libraries need to be involved in the planning and implementation of new information technologies at all levels. Research, instruction, preservation, access, and dissemination.
