Indiana Department of Education Summary of Proposed Rule Revisions for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA)
Goals Increase teachers’ content knowledge and instructional skill Increase student achievement to meet state goals Increase administrators’ flexibility to make innovative changes to improve student achievement Clean up bureaucratic red tape that slows down teacher & administrator efforts to relicense & improve instructional quality Update regulations and remove redundancies & outdated provisions
Proposed Changes Content-Knowledge Requirements Testing for Every Teacher Better Novice-Teacher Programs Streamlined License Renewal for current Teachers Smoother Transitions and Additions Flexibility for Better Teacher Placement Adding Content Areas to License Freedom to Hire Administrators who Best Meet the Needs of a District or Building More Effective License Suspension & Revocation
Effects on Current License Holders Proposed Rules Implemented July 1, 2010 Conversion to New Rules upon Renewal (except for Life licenses issued under prior licensing rules) Grandfather current students graduating prior to 2012
