By James Spratt.

For my research task I felt I should look into short film producers who base and promote their work using YouTube. I needed to look into blogs and/or LinkedIn profiles. I found a few blogs from these producers as they outline work they have done and give tops on how to become a better producer in the digital media projects. I looked at the blogs of Freddie Wong, Jack & Dean & Ryan Higa who are all media producers and mainly promote on YouTube

Freddie Wong is a ‘short film producer’ and has been my favourite for a while now. The blogging website he uses is very simple but its the content that helps the viewers and gives them something to learn from it. He advises not only independent film makers like himself, but across all the boards of media production ranging from music to gaming videos. I feel the blog includes a lot of detailed information to make it feel very professional when taking guidance from the blog. It basically helps us as media producers out by tipping us through his past experience. Simple steps such as ‘staying active’ & ‘hard work’ are represented in his blog but he elaborates on what you can do to get what you want out of your effort.

Jack & Dean are two independent film producers who create short comedy sketches which receive tens of thousands of views online. The blogging website they use is to update viewers on content they have produced and even get the viewers involved in ideas etc. The layout is very informative mainly due to their young age targeting a young demographic, but the overall feel of the blog is great as it allows the users to interactive by replying to the blog posts and liking them etc. The blog also allows Jack & Dean to stay posted with their followers and aware them of videos they are planning to film/produce. Although the blog doesn't give out many tips such as Freddie's but it still represents an official blog for viewers to learn on how they promote their content and keep fans up to date.

Ryan Higa is also an independent film producer who creates a variety of productions from video logs to music videos, to comedy sketches. His blog has a similar style to Jack & Dean probably due to a similar target market. On a whole the blog holds a lot of information and is regularly updated. The content that is blogged helps the viewers to keep up to date on Ryan's videos and gives them exclusive content to watch before it goes on YouTube. The way I can learn from Ryan and the way he subliminally advises people is through active and frequent content. He advises a variety of content as frequent as possible and giving viewers extra thanks by using external websites other than YouTube to give them exclusive updates and footage etc.
