George Macfarlane Student Member of OU Council Student Volunteers

What do Students Volunteer for With in excess of 200,000 students the OU has one of the largest pool of volunteers in any organisation. But what do they volunteer for?

OU Students Association Unlike most other Student Associations, OUSA is proud of the fact that all of our activists are volunteers from our President and Executive, our regional and central representatives who provide :  Student Representatives on OU Boards and Committees  Residential School Representatives

Peer Support While the support available from the University is second to none, many students prefer Peer Support, and our student volunteers provide this through a variety of Link networks and virtually through our Peer Support On-line and Computer Conferencing Suite. All links and Peer Supporters are Volunteers

OUSA Virtually With over 1,000 social conferences run by students for students, OUSA provides an opportunity for students to interact, debate, and support each other. All conferences are moderated by student Volunteers

OUSA Face to Face Through our Local and Regional Structures Students are able to meet up with other students, provide self help study groups as well as social events. Through these events are able to offer students the break from the isolation many distance learning students suffer.

Student Charity While many students qualify for Financial Assistance from the University, some fall through the safety nets, and the Student Charity is there only means of continuing their studies. Funds are raised by Volunteers and over half the board of trustees, including the Chair are Student Volunteers

What about outside of the OU? Many OU Students already volunteer there time in many ways outside of the OU/OUSA. Many students provide voluntary services to local and national charities, including Adult Literacy Citizens Advice and Disabled Rights to name but a few.

What can we offer Ask us for help, we will do what we can. OU Students have a vast knowledge from everyday lives which can be put to good use to help others

Thank You
