What is e-business Electronic business or e-business is the use of ICT to improve business (from the use of to facilitate administrative procedures in buying and selling through the Internet). Electronic commerce or e-commerce is where business transactions take place via electronic communication networks, especially the Internet.

How it helps Communications: delivery of goods, services, information, or payments over computer networks or any other electronic means Business process: doing business electronically by completing business processes over electronic networks, thereby substituting information for physical business processes Service: a tool that addresses the desire of governments, firms, consumers, and management to cut service costs while improving the quality of customer service and increasing the speed of service delivery

How it helps Learning: an enabler of online training and education in schools, universities, and other organizations, including businesses Collaborative: the framework for inter- and intra- organizational collaboration Community: provides a gathering place for community members to learn, transact, and collaborate Commercial (trading): provides capability of buying and selling products, services, and information on the Internet and via other online services

Types of ebusiness Business to Business (B2B) Business to Consumers (B2C) Consumer to Consumers (C2C)

Models Brokerage - Brokers are market-makers. They bring buyers and sellers together and facilitate transactions. Brokers play a frequent role in markets. (ebay, paypal, amazon) Advertising - The web advertising model is an extension of the traditional media broadcast model. The broadcaster provides content and services (like , IM, blogs) and advertising messages (Yahoo, Hotmail, Monster) Infomediary - Data about consumers and their consumption habits are valuable. Independently collected data about producers and their products are useful to consumers when considering a purchase. (Netratings, JDPA, Edmunds) Merchant - Wholesalers and retailers of goods and services. (Barnes and Noble, Applie itunes)

Models Community - The viability of the community model is based on user loyalty. Users have a high investment in both time and emotion. Revenue can be based on the sale of ancillary products and services or voluntary contributions; or revenue may be tied to contextual advertising and subscriptions for premium services.(wikipedia, friendster, pbs) Manufacturer (Direct) - The manufacturer or "direct model", it is predicated on the power of the web to allow a manufacturer (i.e., a company that creates a product or service) to reach buyers directly and thereby compress the distribution channel. (Dell) Subscription - Users are charged a periodic -- daily, monthly or annual -- fee to subscribe to a service. It is not uncommon for sites to combine free content with "premium" (i.e., subscriber- or member-only) content. (listen, netflix, classmates)
