Life in the Japanese Internment Camps Clark Comstock Martinez Middle School

Centerpieces This project is a supplement to the novel Thin Wood Walls. The photos taken at the Manzanar War Relocation Camp by Ansel Adams serve as the primary sources. »Ansel Adams

Who is this for? This project is intended for 7 th and 8 th grade students.

Subject Areas This project integrates social studies into the language arts classrooms. This project utilizes technology in a number of ways.

Objectives Students will look at several photographs and respond to them. Students will use what they know about internment camps from a variety of sources to write at least one haiku and two other poems of their choice. They will also write one group poem. Students will compose a letter to the editor to clearly state an opinion, demonstrate knowledge of a topic, and persuade readers.
