Shermaine Gray 5/14/2010

 Jess was born Jesse Louis Burns in Greenville, South Caroline. His father was a former professional boxer and a prominent figure in the black community.

 He attended Sterling high school, a segregated high school in Greenville, where he was a student athlete. He graduated in 1959, he rejected a contract from a professional baseball team.

 In 1965 he was in the Selma to Montgomery marches.In 1966 he was the head of the Operation Breadbasket. In 1984 organized the Rainbow Coalition.

 During 1980s, he had fame as an African American leader and a politician and a spokesman for civil rights issues.

 On November 3, 1983, he announced his campaign for presidency. In 1984 Jesse became the second African American to mount a nationwide campaign for President of the United States. Jesse had 3,282,431 votes.

 In March 2007, Jesse declared his support for Senator Barack Obama in the 2008 democratic primaries. On November 4,2008 Jesse was present at the Obama victory rally, waiting for Obama to appear, before Obama Jesse was in torn.
