Your Poster Should Be: Laid out logically Conservative in design Of sufficient size to be easily read from feet away

Size is Important There is no “Standard Size”, but there are common sizes. 40 x x 56* This is the maximum size allowed by many printer drivers Check the poster guidelines and instructions for your poster session. Common poster area sizes are 4’ x 8’ or 4’ x 6’. Outside of the United States poster areas are commonly vertical or “portrait format” and are measured in meters.

42” 100’

Keep the shortest dimension of your poster to 41 inches or under.

Gloss paper or satin finish Lamination and Foamcore Mounting are also available

*Size is Important If a size larger than 35.5 x 56 is needed, make your page size half the size desired. For instance, a 20 x 30 page will yield a poster that is 40 x 60 Avoid using the default page size which is 7.5 x 10 inches

Title 140pt Authors: 72 pt Affiliations: 60 pt Subheads: 48 pt Text: 24 pt minimum

Please make your title concise and bold so that the audience can zero in easily to your topic which might interest them!

BE CONCISE… The same goes for text. The easier it is to read, the more it will get read. Consider having business cards available and possibly printed handouts of your poster.

Fonts Use common, easy to read fonts such as Arial or Times new roman. If special or unusual fonts are used please supply the font with the poster.

Color Color is recommended. It adds interest and draws attention to your poster Use of color and ink coverage do not add cost to your poster What is the best color??? When using a color background, utilize contrast when choosing a text color.

Graphic Elements These include pictures, illustrations, charts and graphs

Examples

Common pitfalls Poor resolution Distortion of graphics to make them fit Improper use of logo

But what does all this cost? Poster proof = $10.50 Shipping tube = $6.50 Time/Labor = $30 to $45 Poster = 3.5¢ per square inch

How much lead time? We can if need be, turn around a poster in 1 day. However, during heavy poster session season (spring and fall) 2 or more days are recommended.
