Input and Outputs Leslie Flores

What is an Input? Input consists of data and instructions. Input devices translate what people understand into a form that computers can process.

Input Devices Input Devices is hardware used to translate words, sounds, images, and actions that makes easy for people to understand. Some examples of inputs are: keyboards, mouse, touch screen, joystick

Keyboards Used to convert numbers, letters, and special characters, that people understand into electrical signals Traditional Keyboard: full-sized, rigid, rectangular keyboards, that include function, navigational, and numeric keys Flexible Keyboard: fold or roll up for easy storage. Ergonomic Keyboard: the arrangement, it is not rectangular and a palm rest is provided.

Pointing Devices Mouse Control Device: appears in the shape of an arrow. Mechanical Mouse: considered the traditional type and is commonly used. Optical Mouse: Emits and senses light to detect mouse movement. Cordless/Wireless Mouse: battery powered that uses radio waves or infrared light waves to communicate with the system unit.

Optical Scanners Known as a scanner, accepts documents consisting of text and images and converts them to machine-readable form.

Types of Scanners Flatbed Scanner: like a copier machine. The image can be scanned is placed on a glass surface and the scanner is able to record the image from below. Portable Scanner: a handheld device that slides across the image, making direct contact.

Digital Camera The images off the camera are recorded digitally on a disk or downloaded or transferred to the computer. Digital cameras are able to capture still images
