Predictive Reservation for Allocating Bandwidth to Wireless ATM Networks Venkat Vinay Pampati

Introduction: Wireless ATM Network The concept of WATM was proposed in 1992 and now it is actively considered as a potential framework for next generation wireless communication networks. The strength of the WATM is its ability to provide support for different protocols, such as ISDN and Internet protocols. The WATM consists of:. Cluster of Base stations---Wireline ATM Networks.. Base Stations to Destination---Wireless ATM Networks.

WATM Architecture:

Issues: New Call Blocking probability, hand-over probability, call termination probability, bandwidth utilization. Dropping of connections due to the non availability of resource and not due to the multi-path case. Dropped call blocking and not the Dropped call queued. Constant Bit rate (CBR) and not the ABR (Available Bit Rate).

The Reservation Schema: (a) A mobile arrives at cell 3. (b) The mobile leaves the cell and ends up in cell 5

The Proposed Algorithm: IF a mobile arrives to a cell THEN 1. message to previous base station the mobile was in. 2. based on current probability info and the tracking buffer of the mobile, determine the cell(s) with the highest transition probability. 3. send message, requesting bandwidth for the mobile to the predicted cells(s). IF a CELL receives a message from neighbor base station THEN Update probability information for the current cell. IF a CELL receives a reserve bandwidth message from neighbor cell THEN IF available bandwidth is greater than the requested bandwidth THEN reserve the requested BW and available BW becomes the rest remaining.

The Statistical Mobility Model: Let i = the cell that the mobile m is currently in. s = mobility state of the mobile. Therefore s = {s1, s2, ……. sm}, s k  I, k = 1,2,………,M Let N = number of neighboring cells of cell i. and if P s = set of transition probabilities, then

The Reservation Schema and Styles Reservation styles Schem a 1. resv-all 2. resv-max 3. resv-uniform 4. resv-max-2

Simulation Results: High Load Conditions: Offered load Vs New Call Blocking Probability. Offered Load Vs Hand-off Dropping Probability.

Low Load Conditions: Offered Load Vs Hand-Off Dropping Probabilities Offered Load Vs New Call Dropping Probabilities
