PEMDAS  Parenthesis (_)  Exponents b E  Multiply and Divide * and /  Go from left to right  Add and Subtract + and –  Go from left to right

Look for Separators  Since add and subtract is the last thing you do, we will use these as separators (not including + & - signs in parenthesis  Identify the separators, but don’t solve:  / 3  4(8-3)/5-2  2(4+1) /2  5c+(a-b) 2 + 3c -8(y-3) – t(r+7)+7

PEMDAS Examples  Simplify: (8-2) -12  10  Simplify: (5-1)-3  21  Evaluate: 2x + (x-y) 3 when x = 9 & y = 7  26
