Judge

What Has Been Done To Cure These Ailments? Subway Closures-Renovations/Refurbishment –Often cause severe delays in service –In 2005, according to the MTA budget, repairs will cost approximately $35.5 Million (does not include cost of buildings, etc.).

2005 Costs To Repair Tracks Damaged From Fire: Approximately $55.8 Million. Garbage Receptacles Placed in Subways for Garbage. Signs: “Help Keep Our Subways Clean.”

Exterminations to Rid the Subway of Rodents.

To Combat Graffiti –Police presence in the subway –Fines

Crime in the subway has been down over the past few years. Cleanliness standards for the subway are in place. –Most lines are cleaner now than five years ago. But it isn’t enough!!

Christian Ethics Is it just that salaries of top management continue to rise, while conditions get poorer? Is it just that riders are charged increased fares?

Act

Over the past two years, subway fares have increased twice, while top management’s salaries have continued to increase. –Cut salaries of top management. Better oversight of construction-see where the funds are going, and that the job is done right the first time.

More severe penalties for those caught littering or writing graffiti. –Community service-Make them clean the subway-a cost free source of labor. –Higher fines-raise more funds for the cleanup.

Subway “Sweeper Car” –Similar to street sweeper. –Rides over tracks, and vacuums up garbage-designed to let water flow back out.
