Radiation Safety Section Goals and Measure For 2005

GoalMeasures Customer / Stakeholder Service Implement NRC Orders regarding enhanced security (called preventive measures) for our 6 irradiator facilities Inform management and irradiator facilities of the NRC Orders  Develop a committee to review the Order, generate an implementation plan  Implement plan before due date of 180 days after final rules are promulgated Freeze dirtbag !!!!! Go ahead, make my day

GoalMeasures Improvements to a Critical Process Work with the purchasing department to develop a new procedure for users to purchase radioactive materials that will be beneficial to Users, Purchasing, and us Meet with Purchasing to identify issues and brainstorm on possible procedural modifications  Carefully review Purchasing’s draft proposal for a new policy  Implement policy changes in our office to supplement the new process

GoalMeasures Learning, Growth and Innovation Provide professional growth opportunities which will benefit the Radiation Safety Office staff, the Office itself, and UNC Encourage staff to attend NCHPS meetings, Duke seminars, and other professional meetings as budget allows  Encourage staff presentations at EHS In-service, Duke Seminars, NCHPS meetings  Conduct internal in-services on new medical procedures, new regulatory requirements, new technologies

GoalMeasures Financial Accountability and Performance Improve personnel dosimetry program to cut down on cost, improve efficiency, and maintain regulatory compliance Get RSC approval on new dosimetry policy regarding non-returned dosimeters from persons who aren’t required to be monitored  Delete dosimeter series that meet the termination criteria  Encourage the termination of unnecessary dosimeters  Modify the external monitoring policy for the hospital to reduce conservatism in EDE measurements which will reduce the number of investigations done quarterly and reduce the number of waist badges

Radiation Safety Section Goal for EHS Department: Bring a Manager to Work Day Come along to see a laboratory inspection performed (C.L.I.P. and/or Rad) Come along and see Hospital Operations (clean up a rad room, consult with a radioactive outpatient, or setup a radiation isolation room) Come get a tour of the Hospital facilities (Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Accelerators, Brachytherapy sources) Come get a tour of the Physics Department’s Accelerator and Irradiator Come get a tour of all Irradiator facilities (six) Come see an analytical x-ray machine Choose any of the following:
