RECALL: ATOM – the tiny particles which make up all matter Read pages

CHARGES ON OBJECTS REMEMBER: Protons (p + ) have a Positive (+) charge Electrons (e - ) have a Negative (-) charge

When the Number of Protons equals the Number of Electrons, the atom is NEUTRAL NEUTRAL #p + = #e -

Neutral Atom Equal Number of electrons outside the nucleus as Protons inside the nucleus

POSITIVE NEGATIVE If electrons are REMOVED from a neutral object the object will become POSITIVELY charged - removed + If electrons are ADDED to the neutral object, the object will become NEGATIVELY charged - added - CHARGED OBJECTS

They are located INSIDE the nucleus and have a far GREATER MASS then the electrons which are located far from the nucleus and can therefore move between objects PROTONS DO NOT MOVE!
