Intro and First half of Juz 1 Summary ICN Ramadan Tafseer

Quran What does Quran mean linguistically? What does Quran mean according to the Shariah? How has Allah protected the Quran? What does Quran mean linguistically? Comes from that which is recited Or comes from that thing which gathers What does Quran mean according to the Shariah? The word of Allah سبحانه و تعالى which was revealed to His last Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم starting with Surah Al-Fatiha and ending with Surah Al-Naas. Allah has protected the Quran in word and in meaning

Reasons for some verses being revealed Questions??? Situations Actions What are some benefits in knowing the circumstances of revelation?

Benefits of knowing the Circumstances of revelation Revelation is only from Allah Love for the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم Allah’s Mercy Context

Important point concerning circumstances of revelation General application of verses Examples: Beginning of Surah Al-Mujadilah Verses about Liaan (An-Nur verses 6-9)

Makki and madani verses How many years was the Quran revealed in? Why? How do we define Makki verses? How do we define Madni verses? What are the themes covered in Makki verses? What are the themes covered in Madni verses? What are the benefits of knowing whether verses are Makki or Madani?

Tafseer Linguistically? Shariah? What is the ruling of learning Tafseer? What does tafseer mean linguistically? To uncover something which is hidden According to the Shariah To explain the meanings of the Quran

What are the sources of tafseer Quran- using the Quran to explain the Quran The Sunnah Statements of the companions

Sources of tafseer continued Statements of the Sahabah رضي الله عنهم especially the ones that were known for Tafseer قوله تعالى: (وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ مَرْضَى أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ أَوْ لامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ) (النساء: الآية 43 Ibn Abbas said that مس here means having full marital relations Statements of the Tabieen especially those known for taking Tafseer from the Sahabah رضي الله عنهم

استعاذة Istiaadha Verb Mandatory before recitation Evidence Why? Is it read in Salah? When? Is the verb used when we say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم It is mandatory to say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم before starting recitation of the Quran Allah said: فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ (98) When you start to recite the Quran seek Allah’s protection from shaytaan the cursed devil An-Nahl:98 The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم used to recite it before his recitation after dua istiftaah (the opening dua before Al-Fatiha)

Virtues of استعاذة and when it should be said? Anger Distraction in Salah Entering the bathroom The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم saw two people arguing and one of them became so angry his face became red and his veins were sticking out, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said I know of a statement if he said what is bothering him would leave him (ie. His anger) and then He صلى الله عليه و سلم said أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم When someone becomes distracted in salah he should blow dry spit to his left side three times and say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم A person should seek Allah’s protection against the male and female devils before entering the bathroom

Meaning of استعاذة أعوذ- means to stick to or cling to something الشيطان can come from two meanings From شطن meaning someone or something that is far far away From شاط- the one who is destroyed or burned. الرجيم- comes from المرجوم literally the one who is stoned. , when referring to shaytaan it means the one who is far away from all forms of goodness When referring to shaytaan it is the one who is destroyed When referring to shaytaan it means the one who is stoned by the curse of Allah سبحانه و تعالى

استعاذة putting it all together O Allah I seek your protection, refuge and shelter with you from the Shaytaan who is destroyed, cursed and destructive. Stranded person seeking refuge

بسملة Basmalah When we say the بسملة we should have the presence of mind to understand that we are asking Allah’s help with this action It is from the mercy and blessings of Allah that we are even able to perform this action So we thank Allah, ask His help and support to give us the ability to do any action we are doing in the best possible way What are some times that we know we are supposed to say bismillah? Before we eat Take off our clothes Exit and enter our house Have relations

I will teach you the greatest surah in the Quran before you leave the Masjid. Then he took my hand, and we were about to exit the Masjid and I said O Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم didn’t you tell me that you would tell me and He صلى الله عليه و سلم said (الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ).
