Tonight’s Purpose:  Review registration process  Share information that will help you and your student select classes for next year  Meet some key staff members who will help with the transition to middle school  Provide an opportunity for you to ask questions  Most importantly...to ease any anxiety about sending your child to middle school

Registration for 2015/16 March:  Mr. C has visited all 5 th grade teachers from HC, GW and SL  Registration materials delivered to 5 th grade teachers  During conferences next week, 5 th grade teachers will walk families through completing registration form  Registration forms collected at conference and no later than April 13

Registration form

Making Your Selections Make your choices carefully, and be sure you are committed to the classes you select. Once schedules are created, our ability to change classes during the year is limited due to class size.

What Is the Exploratory Program? Sixth Grade Exploratories OPTION 1 : Technology and Art (semester each) OPTION 2 : Band (full year)

What Might a Sixth Grader’s Schedule Look Like? 1 7:50-8:51 Language Arts 6 (or Challenge LA) 2 8:54-9:53 Wellness 3 9:56-10:55 Math 6 (or Challenge Math) L 10:55-11:25 A-Lunch 4 11:28-12:25 Exploratory or Band 5 12:28-1:27 Social Studies 6 1:30- 2:30Science

Special Education Services  Students receiving services in Resource Room, Structured Learning Center or Life Skills will have schedule built according to IEP Team recommendations  On the registration form your child brings home, mark the 6th Grade Language Arts and 6th Grade Math boxes, and the case managers will place your child according to his/her IEP goal areas. IEP case managers will meet with each elementary school resource team to discuss student placement.

Are Challenge Courses Right for you? It may be a consideration if you: ➢ Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work at an accelerated pace ➢ Persevere - You must commit for the entire year ➢ Perform above grade level ➢ Demonstrate strong organizational skills, complete assignments, and turn them in on time ➢ Take responsibility for your own learning and ask for help/clarification when needed
