Shared success TOPICS Introduction IP Network Layers and their Functions IP Network Equipments Broadband Access Technologies

Shared success INTRODUCTION What is IPNGN? Multi-Service Network Separated Planes Open Interfaces A packet Mode Technology Guaranteed QoS Supports generalized mobility

Shared success Why NGN? Fusion of services Common network IP in back bone Split of different layers INTRODUCTION Cont’d

Shared success INTRODUCTION Cont’d Ethio telecom’s IP Network is constructed in such a way that it can provide NGN (including GSM, Fixed NGN, CDMA, IP/Broadband Access Network services including Value Added Services) at regional cities, major cities, sub cities, and towns.

Shared success IP NETWORK LAYERS & THEIR FUNCTIONS

Shared success IP NETWORK LAYERS & THEIR FUNCTIONS Cont’d Gateway layer/ deployed in 4 sites Backbone layer/ deployed in 5 sites Core layer/deployed in 17 sites Edge layer/deployed in 25 sites, and CS Layer/ deployed in 84 sites (75 cities)

Shared success It contains Gateway Routers, Mainly functions to connect to an external network /internet/ GATEWAY LAYER

Shared success GATEWAY LAYER Cont’d

Shared success The Ethio Telecom has built extensively Ethiopia’s internet infrastructure to give better and quality internet service. Currently we have fifteen international internet links from Bole, Bahirdar Diredawa and Shashemene gateways The Total Upstream /downstream bandwidth is / in Mbps GATEWAY LAYER Cont’d

Shared success This layer is mainly responsible for service traffic forwarding, convergence and high capacity communication facilities. CORE LAYER

Shared success EDGE LAYER Provides information exchange b/n the access and core network. Provides It is an entry point in to carrier/service provider core backbone networks. Used for aggregation of core switches.

Shared success EDGE LAYER Cont’d

Shared success Three IP/MPLS Layers - 10Gbps

Shared success Access layer is where broadband access devices and ethio telecom’s other networks (GSM, CDMA, FL-NGN) are connected. ACCESS LAYER

Routers: ZTE T8000,M6000-8,T1200, GER, BRAS Switches: ZTE T160G and T64G DSLAMs MSAGs NETWORK EQUIPMENTS

Shared success ZXR10 M carrier class router Switching Capacity: 1.92 Tbps Weight: < 145 k g

Shared success BROADBAND ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES Broadband dial-up (PPPoE) and leased line (IPoE) services ADSL2+ (up to 24Mbps) and VDSL2 (up to 250Mbps) services. EPON – up to 1Gbps optical GPON – up to 2.5Gbps optical

Shared success ADSL2+ PPPOE Network Link and Traffic Flow IP-NGN Core Internet Customer FL-NGN Access MSAG ADSL2+ BRAS AAA Server Modem TB CC Transmission Copper BRAS ADSL PPPOE Traffic Flow Procedure Customer dials using the PPPOE protocol that includes customer account and password information. BRAS accepts the customers’ dialup request, and then using the radius protocol, Synchronize the account/password and speed information from the AAA server, Authenticate. If the account and password is correct, BRAS will assign a dynamic address to the customer. Customers get the internet access services through the PPPOE protocol and BRAS controls the speed of customer internet access. If the account and password isn’t correct, BRAS Refuse the customer’s internet access request and disconnection link. BRAS

Shared success ADSL2+ IPOE Network Link and Traffic Flow IP-NGN Core Internet Customer FL-NGN Access MSAG ADSL2+ BRAS Switch TB CC Transmission Copper BRAS ADSL2+ IPOE Traffic Flow Procedure Customer gateway is deployed on the BRAS; Traffic goes to the BRAS then forwarded to the internet through IP NGN Network. The speed of internet access limitation will be configured on the BRAS. BRAS
