Activity #45 The World of Microbes

Activity 45: The World of Microbes White Space ?: Why is it important for scientists to classify all living things? (Explain in 3 sentences or more) Challenge Question: How do microbes (germs) fit into the classification of organisms? Background: Read p C-70 and C-71 and write down four facts. Vocabulary: Bacteria: a single celled microbe with no nucleus; most common Microbe: a germ Microorganism: a small living organism that you can not see Nucleus: the center of a cell Protist: a small single-celled microbe with a nucleus Virus: a small microbe; not living!

Activity 45: The World of Microbes Materials: Student Textbook Procedure: This lesson will be done over 2 days. Listen to the teacher for instructions. Data: Use the Microbe Differences Table

Activity 45: The World of Microbes Viruses, Bacteria, and Protists Too small to see with your eye clearly Viruses are the smallest, bacteria are in the middle, and protists are the largest Not all bacteria are harmful! Many thousand are in and on your body daily but you would never know it!

Activity 45: The World of Microbes Classification of living things is split into five kingdoms Kingdoms include: Animals (Aunt) Plants (Patty) Fungi (Feels) Protists (Pretty) Bacteria (Bad) Viruses are not living things!!

Activity 45: The World of Microbes Analysis Questions: Answer questions #1-6 on page C76 Conclusion: What did you learn about bacteria, protists, and viruses? Talk about each one. (4-5 sentences or no stamp!) Notes to Self: Table, Analysis and Conclusion must be done for a stamp!
