Options Sessions 2 and 3

The Panel: Marianne Cutler Jon Brown Laura Reed David Gratrick Peter Green Please note: We are extremely grateful to our panel members. There was no attempt to create a cross-section or balanced panel, other than to ensure we had comment from National, Regional, Local, School SLT, NQT and faith perspectives.

What do you want from the new Government?

Dr Mary Bousted, General Secretary of ATL believes the much talked about teacher recruitment crisis will become a reality under the new Government and warns of an increase in child poverty which will lead to a decrease in social mobility and educational achievement: "School leaders will explore every avenue to put teachers in front of pupils, but the challenge to recruit and retain teachers across a wide range of subjects will become ever more pressing."

Chris Husbands, Professor of Education and Director of the Institute of Education suggests the Conservative victory will impact the education system, saying that the party's manifesto was "long on aspiration", with pledges such as ensuring England leads the world in mathematics and science and doubling the number of new maths and science teachers being trained each year "easier said than done."

Schools have a ‘General Duty’ to: Eliminate unlawful discrimination, victimisation and harassment Advance equality of opportunity between those with protected characteristics and those without Foster positive relations between people with protected characteristics and those without And what of British Values?
