A national strategy for support staff working in the NHS Talent for Care

Talent for Care Strategy Get in, Get on, Go further…

Get in… The NHS is the largest employer in Europe Support staff roles make up 40% of our workforce Support staff deliver 60% of all hands on patient care Support staff are a critical part of our service delivery

Get in… Many of these staff have no formal clinical or professional qualifications on entry Most enter the NHS at GSCE level or below The most important criteria that we consider when recruit to this group is not their current academic achievement but their values, behaviours and attitudes

Recruiting for Values Behaviours and Attitudes

Get on… Just because our support staff may enter the NHS without formal clinical or academic qualifications does not mean we do not support them to progress

Go further… Increasingly we are offering part time and full time progression routes….From an Apprentice through to a degree level qualified career

Apprenticeship to first class honours degree. Three promotions in 4 years and plans to complete her MBA! Claire Murray, HENE
