I walked too far Descriptive (reporting) gives a rear-view mirror perspective: but predictive /prescriptive methods shine headlights on what lies ahead Predictive: What is going to happened? If I stay on the current trajectory, I’m going to fall off a cliff Prescriptive: How do I achieve the best outcome & avoid failure? Stop walking, or change direction! What’s the best way to avoid this? When is it too late?

© 2015 IBM Corporation 7 What’s it all take to make it “work?”

© 2015 IBM Corporation IBM is leading the analytics revolution; big data, analysis tools, and support infrastructure – and it’s getting more simple and more sophisticated Big Data refers to technologies and initiatives that use data that is too diverse, fast-changing or massive for conventional approaches. The volume, velocity, or variety of data is too expansive. 8 Watson Analytics provides a platform for “automated analysis” by importing and processing data sets and using machine intelligence to automatically selecting among various methods and data visualization options. What is changing in the realm of analytics?  Analytics is providing a more vivid picture of the business and the forces that affect it. –Reduce the time between insight and action. –Enable decision makers to find their own answers. –Empower people at every level to act with confidence. –Reveal answers to questions you never thought to ask. Going beyond business intelligence  As analytics capabilities extend beyond the traditional business intelligence systems, leading organizations are analyzing data in new and varied ways to distance themselves from the competition.
