Virtual Advising & Registration

 The Virtual Advising Presentation applies to you in every way but please consult this quick presentation for clarification of CAS Core requirements.  If you are an internal transfer student from the Global Liberal Studies (GLS) program, you have possible benefits and exemptions from the CAS Core curriculum, based on the LS/GLS Core classes you have taken. Some of these courses, singularly or in combination, will satisfy CAS Core.  NOTE: If you did not complete the exact courses listed in this presentation, there are no exceptions. You must then default to the CAS Core requirements as specified in the Virtual Advising Presentation and CAS Core website. You are NOT allowed to take these –UF courses once you are a CAS student.

1. Expository Writing 2. Foreign Language 3. Foundations of Contemporary Culture (4 courses): I.Texts & Ideas II.Cultures & Contexts III.Societies & the Social Sciences IV.Expressive Culture 4. Foundations of Scientific Inquiry (3 courses): I.Quantitative Reasoning II.Natural Science I III.Natural Science II ◦ CAS students are required to fulfill each of these requirements.

 If you have taken the courses listed at GLS/LS then this satisfies the corresponding CAS Core requirement.  CAS CORE RequirementGLS/LS Core Course Expository WritingWriting I & Writing II Texts & IdeasCultural Foundations I & II Cultures & ContextsCultural Foundations I, II & III and Social Foundations I, II & III Societies & the Social SciencesSocial Foundations I, II & III Expressive CultureCultural Foundations I, II & III Natural Science IHistory of the Universe or Science of Technology Natural Science IIEnvironmental Studies or Life Science

If you did not take the courses listed in the previous slide, please refer to the CAS Virtual Advising Presentation and Core website for the various ways to satisfy the CAS Core curriculum. Some options involve taking designated courses, or by completing specific majors or minors.

Some CAS majors allow for GLS/LS courses to count towards major requirements:  History: 2 courses towards the History major ◦ Social Foundations I = Pre-1800 course ◦ Social Foundations II = Introductory European Elective  English: 2 courses towards the English major ◦ Cultural Foundations I = Pre-1800 elective ◦ Cultural Foundations II = 1 advanced elective  Politics: 1 course towards the Politics major ◦ Social Foundations I + II = 1 Politics elective  Art History: 1 course towards the Art History major ◦ Cultural Foundations I + II = 1 Art History elective

 Some GLS/LS Core courses can count towards CAS Core and major requirements, but only if taken prior to entry into CAS. Please refer back to this presentation and your CAS advisor or major advisor for more information.  Consult the CAS Core website for details:  Course Descriptions, Exemptions, etc.
