Balanced Approach to Reading Read Aloud Mini Lessons – Teaching a new strategy Shared Reading Guided Reading Independent Practice Reading Buddies

In the Classroom… Reading Block Whole Class Introducing a new strategy or skill in a mini lesson ELA Modules Interactive Read Aloud Comprehension Tool Kit Text Talk (Vocabulary) Small group instruction with rotations Two teacher directed tables providing direct, explicit instruction on students’ levels and needs. Independent Stations Guided Reading Leveled books Decodables Fundations second dose Writing activities which support comprehension Multisensory phonics skill reinforcement Independent Activities
