2 INTRODUCTION 2013 GHS Graduate Mathematics major at University of North Texas, with minors in teaching and Spanish. Future plans: Teach math in middle school or high school, possibly teach at the university level

3 WHO FUNDS THE TERRY SCHOLARSHIP? The Terry Foundation – founded by Howard and Nancy Terry. The Terry Foundation offices are located in Houston, TX.

WHAT IS THE TERRY SCHOLARSHIP? The Terry scholarship funds 8 semesters of tuition for incoming freshman. It also covers books, supplies, room and board, etc. Study abroad funds 4

5 WHAT SCHOOLS OFFER THE TERRY SCHOLARSHIP? There are currently 11 Texas public universities that offer the Terry Scholarship. 1. University of Texas – Austin 2. Texas A&M University – College Station 3. University of Texas – San Antonio 4. Texas State University – San Marcos 5. University of Texas – Dallas 6. University of Houston  University of North Texas – Denton 8. Texas Tech University – Lubbock 9. Texas Women’s University 10. Sam Houston State University - Huntsville 11. Texas A&M University - Galveston **Each university that offers the Terry Scholarship has a different process for applying and application deadlines vary.

6 WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THE TERRY SCHOLARSHIP? To be considered for the scholarship, you must: be a 2014 graduate from a Texas high school or Texas home-school (and be a Texas resident) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States be admitted to the University of North Texas as a full-time student for have a record of leadership in school and community show strong academic abilities, as evidenced by grades, class rank, and ACT or SAT scores have financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) reside on campus for the first year at the University of North Texas Note: The Foundation has recently added a Transfer/Non- Traditional Student Program, for more information please consult:

7 HOW DO YOU APPLY? Application information and application available on website ( How to apply: Complete the Apply Texas Admission application.Apply Texas Complete the Terry Scholarship application and return the packet with all information requested to the address provided on the application no later than February 1, 2014.Terry Scholarship application Applications submitted through the General Academic Scholarship application will be reviewed. Students who appear to meet Terry Foundation requirements will be asked to submit transcripts, letters of recommendation and detailed family income information. Important Dates: Apply to the University of North Texas Submit your completed Terry Scholarship and your other supporting materials File a FAFSA on-line Apply for on-campus housing

8 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION? The University of North Texas reviews all completed Terry Scholarship applications received. From all the applications received, only 32 students are nominated to the Terry Foundation. The Terry Foundation schedules interviews with those 32 students. The Terry Foundation selects up to 16 new Terry Scholars for UNT each year. **Numbers may vary: For , UNT welcomed 24 new Freshman Terry Scholars.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I’M SELECTED? Freshman Terry scholars attend a small orientation in the summer during the orientation for their university. All Terry scholars must attend three mandatory events every year: Fall orientation Fall banquet Spring picnic Terry Scholars must maintain a 2.5 GPA 9
