Very difficult to get Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Sales and Medical Affairs experience in academia. Getting to the Top You should put as much thought and strategy in your career as you would in experimental design. Have a clear plan in what you want to do, and then make the plan of how to get there. Common advice is to treat each role as a 3 year contract, with a set progression you want to make. After 3 years, move internally, or move externally. Always have an exit plan. Before accepting your first role in industry, think about the role you want after that.
