Testing Devices iPads
iPads What you need to know… iPad 2 or newer (iPad minis are not supported) iOS 8.1.3 or newer Each device must be connected to the Internet and to the TSM, if applicable To distribute (deploy) the INSIGHT App (DRC INSIGHT.ipa) you must use a Mobile Device Management (MDM) software tool All settings can be configured with a MDM that supports Managed App Configuration Guided Access must be enabled and activated on each device before testing Oral administration (HVA) or video sign language (VSL) testing available
iPad System Requirements
iPads Configuration Options If your MDM supports the Managed App Configuration feature, you can use the MDM to deploy the INSIGHT configuration file to all iPad devices If your MDM does not support the Managed App Configuration feature, you can use MDM to distribute the INSIGHT App to the iPad devices, but you must manually configure each iPad by using the System Readiness Check
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App Install MDM and enroll iPads Install Testing Site Manager (TSM) Using a TSM is mandatory for oral (HVA/TTS) and video (VSL) testing accommodations TSM software should be installed on a Windows, Mac (OS X), or Linux machine Using a TSM with iPads adds an additional layer of test security as this would prevent DRC INSIGHT from being accessed outside of district or school’s network If iPads are issued to students who test at multiple schools within a district, you may want to set up district-level TSM(s) specifically for iPads that are accessible to all the schools using them
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App Configure MDM iPad group with system settings, if MDM allows: Configure Guided Access Per the tech guide, it is not necessary to turn off all of the above settings for SC because there are only MC/TE test questions; the only setting that requires special configuration is Guided Access.
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App Access eDIRECT for software; Test Setup/General Information (Permission for Online Testing – Secured Resources is needed for access) Download the following two files: DRC INSIGHT.ipa ManagedAppConfig.plist
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App In the MDM, edit the DRC INSIGHT configuration file to supply TSM values Note: you may want to take information from the DRCConfiguration.json file from an already-configured/installed desktop device that has successfully connected to a TSM; the values from this file can be copied into the ManagedAppConfig.plist file
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App
iPads Installation - MDM with Managed App Distribute executable (DRCINSIGHT.ipa) and edited configuration (ManagedAppConfig.plist) files to the iPad devices
iPads Installation – MDM; Configure Manually Install MDM and enroll iPads Install Testing Site Manager (TSM) Download DRC INSIGHT and deploy via MDM
iPads Installation – MDM; Configure Manually 4. From each individual iPad device: Launch DRC INSIGHT Double tap two fingers and hold in an empty part of the screen to display the System Readiness Check Click DRC INSIGHT Properties and input configuration settings, as appropriate Green status indicates tests have passed
iPads Working with Guided Access What you need to know: Guided Access is the iPad feature that puts the device into kiosk mode To ensure test security, DRC INSIGHT will not operate without Guided Access enabled A four-digit numeric passcode is required for configuration; this passcode is used to enter and exit Guided Access during testing, and therefore, must be shared with Test Administrators. It should not be shared with students. To configure manually on each device: Settings-General-Accessibility-Guided Access Turn Guided Access on and click Set Passcode Enter/re-enter four-digit passcode Click Home button to exit Settings
iPads Working with Guided Access To begin testing, the Test Administrator or student should enable Guided Access: Launch DRC INSIGHT Triple-click Home button quickly; the message Guided Access Enabled should display Student may log in to test To exit testing, the Test Administrator should exit Guided Access after student has submitted test: Triple-click Home button quickly and enter four-digit Guided Access passcode Press End and then Exit
Testing Devices Chromebooks (non-touch)
Non-Touch Chromebooks What you need to know… Only non-touch devices are supported at this time; if your devices allow touch function to be disabled, it may be possible to run INSIGHT if used with a mouse or touchpad DRC INSIGHT will not interfere with other Chromebook applications and will not prevent students from using Chromebooks with other applications when not testing. During testing, the application will be locked down Initial setup currently involves touching every device; alternate options are being explored to make configuration easier Each device must be connected to the Internet and to the TSM, if applicable Prior to configuring, each device should be enrolled in the Device Manager found within Google Apps for Education Whitelist this URL so Chromebooks can communicate with DRC’s Device Toolkit: dtk.drcedirect.com 50.58.190.22 Oral administration (HVA) or video sign language (VSL) testing available
Chromebook System Requirements
Non-Touch Chromebooks Configuration Install Testing Site Manager (TSM) Using a TSM is mandatory for oral (HVA/TTS) and video (VSL) testing accommodations TSM software should be installed on a Windows, Mac (OS X), or Linux machine Using a TSM with Chromebooks adds an additional layer of test security as this would prevent DRC INSIGHT from being accessed outside of district or school’s network If Chromebooks are issued to students who test at multiple schools within a district, you may want to set up district-level TSM(s) specifically for Chromebooks that are accessible to all the schools using them; this configuration would also minimize effort for deploying system updates
Non-Touch Chromebooks Configuration (cont.) Configure Admin Console Device Settings Under Device Settings, select the organization level planned for testing use and configure the following: Single App Kiosk = Allow Single App Kiosk Auto Launch Kiosk App = None User Data = Do not erase all local user data Select Manage Kiosk Applications and enter ID and URL for DRC INSIGHT app (found in eDIRECT under Test Setup/General Information) and click Add; after DRC INSIGHT App icon displays, click Save If you immediately want Chromebook(s) to reflect these settings, launch the Chromebook(s) and refresh policies by typing chrome://policy in a browser and clicking “Reload policies”
Non-Touch Chromebooks Configuration (cont.) 1 2 3 4
Non-Touch Chromebooks Configuration (cont.) Use DRC’s Device Toolkit to register Chromebook devices Access eDIRECT; Test Setup/Device Toolkit (Permission for Test Setup – Device Toolkit is needed for access) Create ORG Units and configure according to your testing needs; at least 1 ORG Unit is required for each Chromebook TSM planned for use If multiple schools are using the same TSM within a district, select the school with the most students testing (school selected will not affect which tests students can log into or which school the student is associated with for reporting purposes) Add/register devices to ORG Units using one of these methods: Do not log into your Google account. Launch DRC INSIGHT by clicking App from each Chromebook sign-in screen, and select the appropriate district, school, and ORG Unit from the drop down menu; the System Readiness Check will then run to ensure the device is ready for testing Do not log into your Google account. Launch DRC INSIGHT by clicking App from each Chromebook sign-in screen, make note of the Device ID, and add it to the ORG Unit via eDIRECT (Device Toolkit/Devices)
