Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) The mission of Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) is to provide necessary accommodations, facilitate independence, self- advocacy and assist students to attain success with their educational and vocational goals.

Why do we do what we do? Federal Laws Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Rehabilitation Act of 1973 State Laws California Code of Regulations Title 5 Divisions 6: California Community Colleges Chapter 7: Special Programs Subchapter 1: Disabled Student Services and Programs

Who Are We (DSPS)? Who are our DSPS Students? Acquired Brain Injury Developmentally Delayed Health Impairments (cardiac, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, etc.) Hearing Impairments Learning disabilities Mobility impairments Psychological disabilities Speech disabilities Visual impairments Temporary Disabilities (broken bones, surgical recovery, etc.) *Student must provide disability documentation this will determine accommodations. They have an Education Limitation do to a Disability

What Do We Do? We provide individual educational accommodations to students with verified disability(ies)  Priority Registration  Note-Takers  Alternative Media  Facilitated Seating  Adaptive Equipment  Testing Facilitation  Sign Language Interpreters  Real Time Captionist  Counseling Services (Disability Related)

Allows disabled students to register for classes a week before the general population Not all DSPS Student will have Priority Registration Example: Over 100 units Priority Registration

Note-Takers Another student registered in the class takes notes and gives a copy to the DSPS student. Scanners in the DSPS office Great app to use is CamScanner Volunteer Note-Takers will not receive priority registration They will get a volunteer certificate for the hours.

When Do They Need To Ask For Services? (Student) When assistance is needed Sometimes its before they begin classes Sometimes its after they begin classes Sometimes they need assistance for only one class Refer them to our office anytime. We would be happy to talk with them.

What Do The Students Need To Do To Receive Services? Become a student of MSJC Must see a DSPS Counselor for an Intake ‘Steps to Enrolling’ on our website Individualize Educational Accommodations Fill out a ‘Request for Services’ Through their Eagle Advisor Account Required Every Semester!
