Rules Review and Team Selection Fill out your Fantasy Talkball Draft Card – keep it confidential! Awards for MVP (most individual points) and Championship Team (roster with the most points) Strategize! If you throw the ball to the people on your card, you can increase your points. Remember, you are on your card too—if you don’t participate, you hurt your chances of winning!

Only the person with the Talkball can address the question Only the person with the Talkball can address the question. The person holding the Talkball decides who will get it next by choosing a person with their hand raised. When making a special play, you must announce it by name. You have 5 minutes! What is your reaction to the novel’s ending? For example, do you find it uplifting, depressing, cynical? Explain. Why do you think Orwell chose this ending and what message was he trying to send? Time’s Up!!!

You have 5 minutes! Is the story of Animal Farm believable? Why or why not? Does it matter? Time’s Up!!!

You have 5 minutes! Whose fault is it that the revolution develops into tyranny? Are the animals responsible for their condition, or are they innocent victims of an evil mastermind? Time’s Up!!!

Time’s Up!!! You have 5 minutes! When Orwell describes how the animals enter the room for Old Major’s speech and where they sit, what are some details that give us insight into the different animal’s personality and their status on the farm? Time’s Up!!!

You have 5 minutes! Do you think it’s fair that those who are more educated or more skilled—like the pigs in Animal Farm—have more influence in decision making? Time’s Up!!!

You have 5 minutes! Consider the names of the characters. Why did Orwell use the names he did? How do the names fit the characters? What may they symbolize? Time’s Up!!!

Time’s Up!!! You have 5 minutes! By the end of Animal Farm, things have gone back to the way they were under Mr. Jones, if not even worse. Was there ever a moment in the book when the animals could have made a different decision and changed the course of events? Time’s Up!!!

Time’s Up!!! You have 5 minutes! Some critics believe that, at the end of the book, Orwell suggests that the pigs and human political leaders are interchangeable. Do you think most government rulers are interchangeable—all the same? How might power change those who have it? Time’s Up!!!

You have 5 minutes! What single most important point was Orwell trying to make in Animal Farm? Time’s Up!!!

Great Job!! Tomorrow we will play another fast-paced analysis game, but this time you will be competing in writing!
