Presentation transcript:

The term "robot" was first used in a play called "R.U.R." or "Rossum's Universal Robots" by the Czech writer Karel Capek. The plot was simple: man makes robot then robot kills man! Asimov wrote "Runaround", a story about robots which contained the "Three Laws of Robotics“ The first industrial robot was online in a General Motors automobile factory in New Jersey. It was called UNIMATE.

Security Today, several types of robots can perform basic security functions such as… Surveillance and exploration Robots today go where no man has gone before, from the top of a volcano to the wreck of the Titanic in the depths of the ocean Human helper You probably won't be surprised to hear that several robots are already ready and willing to help out with those pesky household chores

Zeroth Law: A robot may not injure humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm. First Law: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm, unless this would violate the Zeroth Law of Robotics. Second Law: A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the Zeroth or First Law. Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the Zeroth, First, or Second Law.
