Essential Question How do I analyze and respond to a text dependent analysis question?

In Table of Contents Text Dependent Analysis

A Text Dependent Analysis Question (TDA)is based on a passage. You MUST use information from the passage or passages in order to develop a complete, correct response to a TDA. This type of question is on the PSSA.

Text Dependent Analysis Prompt How does the tone of Douglass’s autobiography help achieve his purpose?

First identify the tone. Secondly, identify the author’s purpose.

What is the tone? “In this dialogue, the whole argument in behalf of slavery was brought forward by the master, all of which was disposed of by the slave. The slave was made to say some very smart as well as impressive things in reply to his master—things which had the desired though unexpected effect; for the conversation resulted in the voluntary emancipation of the slave on the part of the master.” (p.146) “Freedom now appeared, to disappear no more forever.” (p. 147)
