Program Agenda Oracle SuperCluster SAP Benchmark World Records Key SuperCluster Technology Advantages Virtualization and High Availability Oracle Optimized Solution for SAP Architecture Examples 2 SAP Benchmark World Records with our current Engineered systems 4 Key Points: * Performance * Virtualization * High Availability * Optimized Solution
Ideal Virtualization and Consolidation platform for SAP Environments Oracle's Most Powerful Engineered Systems World Record Oracle Database and Application Performance & Scalability SAP Benchmark World Records Outstanding Affordability and ROI Oracle’s Hottest Technology Exadata Storage Servers Oracle M6 and T5 Microprocessors Internal ZFS Storage Appliance Oracle VM and Solaris Virtualization
SAP World Records Oracle 6 SAP World Records SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark Results SPARC T5-8 server delivers the best 8-chip, 2-tier result* SPARC M6-32 server delivers the best 32-chip, 2-tier result* 40,000 SAP SD users 220,950 SAPS All others Oracle Oracle Database is the underlying database for the majority of SAP deployments due to Oracle’s tight integration and joint engineering efforts with SAP. Joint Oracle and SAP customers benefit from: - Joint engineering resulting in tight product integration and alignment, and simplified patching - Hardware and software certification so you can be assured that each component will work together - Benchmarking so you know what performance to expect from your integrated system - Using benchmark findings, Oracle systems are further fine-tuned and improved for maximum performance when running SAP, resulting in state-of-the-art and world-record-breaking performance - Enhanced joint customer support – support cases can be initiated on either side (Oracle or SAP) and will be escalated as appropriate. Oracle also employs dedicated SAP experts within Oracle’s support organization to further speed time to resolution. 140,000 SAP SD users 793,930 SAPS *See extra slide
Key SuperCluster Technology Advantages SuperCluster accelerates and secures SAP Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) Exadata Storage Servers Proven technology that reduces database response times InfiniBand “backplane” – connection between nodes and Exadata Proven security on all hardware and software layers “ There is nothing more important than securing your data.” - Larry Ellison, OOW14 Keynote “Security has been in our blood for a very long time, It’s part of out heritage” *See extra slide
Virtualization and High Availability for SAP instances Cluster Options for all use cases - certified by SAP Oracle VM Server for SPARC for the separation of applications SAP and non-SAP Apps can be consolidated in different LDOMs Separation of Production / Development / Q&A Oracle Solaris Zones for the separation of SAP systems and instances Two options for High Availability Oracle Solaris Cluster for HA of all SAP applications and highest flexibility Oracle SAPCTL for HA of SAP Central Services

SAP Performance on SuperCluster The Shortcomings of SAPS for Infrastructure sizing Challenge: SAPS is the standard SAP sizing metric. But SAPS is a CPU sizing metric characterizing only the compute requirements of an SAP system and does not allow conclusions about the response characteristics of a database. Real World SAP applications performance is impacted by the whole infrastructure, not just by the CPU. Finding: SuperCluster responds TWICE as fast as standard architectures with the same SAPS rating running the same workload. Supporting Customer Observations Oil & Gas Customer: SAPS for SuperCluster was 1.26X SAPS of existing architecture. Actual tests showed workload on SuperCluster 3X faster than existing architecture. Retail Manufacturing Customer: SAPS for SuperCluster was 0.95X SAPS of existing architecture. Actual tests showed workload on SuperCluster 1.9X faster than existing architecture.
