© Leadership Strategies 2 Manage my personal behaviors Create a vision of successful functioning Align people’s hearts, minds and actions toward the vision

© Leadership Strategies 3 Confidence Confidence is an outward projection of my state of mind, it is how much I believe in myself; believe that I/we can accomplish what I/we have to do. Sometimes people tell me that I am confident when I am not - my insider’s view is very different. Be careful: not feeling confident does not always mean not being confident.

© Leadership Strategies 4 Some things boost my confidence: e.g., when the results show that my ideas are right I get validated, affirmed. Some things help me project more confidence when I do not have it: e.g., product knowledge, rehearsing, planning, preparing lists - these help me affirm before I start for real.

© Leadership Strategies 5 Confidence breeds confidence. When I behave confidently, then others respond confidently and things get done easier. An unconfident meeting with a customer can be a nightmare. The lack of confidence gets amplified. Can I manage my confidence? Can I help my team gain more confidence?

© Leadership Strategies 6 Easy: List Four Situations In Which You Did Not Feel Confident:

© Leadership Strategies 7 Beware The Pit of Doom THE NEW REALITY THE VALLEY OF DESPAIR THE MOUNTAINS OF HOPE PIT OF DOOM THE CURRENT REALITY

© Leadership Strategies 8 The Valley of Despair Everything is changing Loss of expectation Loss of confidence in results Emotional reactions: avoidance, depression, etc. THIS IS NORMAL!

© Leadership Strategies 9 “What you focus on in life is what you receive.” If this is true, then your confidence is impacted strongly by what you focus on. If I focus on weakness I may not be confident, if I focus on strength I may be.

© Leadership Strategies 11 Knowledge Goals Doing Objects

© Leadership Strategies 12 Difficult: For each of the Four situations in which you did not feel confident, what is the core thought about yourself in that led 1) to the feeling of lack of confidence and 2) the behavior of lack of confidence.

© Leadership Strategies 13 Leading Your Self First Recognizing instantly that you do not feel confident. Acting to restore confidence –The journey (of self-doubt) –The higher belief/hope –Surrendering fears –Affirmations and prayers –The Great White Stone –Talking it out –Planning and preparation

© Leadership Strategies 14 Leading with Confidence Firstly comes self-confidence. Self check. Focusing on higher values, affirming to higher beliefs within. Building this into preparation. Practicing every day. Remember the power of modeling successful behavior and attitude to the team.

© Leadership Strategies 15 Secondly comes the confidence of the team. Use what you have - results, processes, knowledge, and beliefs. Teach them to self check as a group and as individuals. Always restate higher beliefs. Use positive reinforcement for behaviors and thoughts. Recognize the “valley of despair” and minimize it.
