Second largest Drought Prone area next to Rajasthan. 10 Agro-climatic Zones with rich crop diversity & 5 major soil types. 76% are SF/MF holdings. Average size of holding 1.55 ha.

Number of Rain Gauges proposed under SUJALA Project – 179.

Contingency plan for Kharif 2015 (Contd…) Contingency Crop plans have been prepared for all the Districts/Zones for the following situations: Normal onset of monsoon followed by immediate prolonged dry spell. Delayed onset of monsoon. Early cessation of rains. Extended monsoon.

“Krishi Bhagya” A special programme to conserve rain water and judiciously use the same for protective irrigation at critical stages. Harvesting of rain water, storage, lifting and efficient use of scarce water and protecting crops during intermittent dry spells. 12800 farm pond excavated and 2000 farm ponds have received water with pre-monsoon showers.
