About SPE Nigeria International Started in 1973 with Lagos Section. Currently has over 3,613 paid members, a Council, five sections (Abuja, Benin, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Warri) and 31 SPE Student Chapters. Membership is open to all professionals engaged in energy resources development and production. 2015 SPE International President is Mr. Helge Hove Haldorsen of Statoil. International AIME comprises of three founding institutes: Metallurgical Society, Society of Mining Engineers and Society of Petroleum Engineers. Petroleum Division of AIME was formed in 1922 As an Institute of AIME, SPE, a not-for-profit professional membership association was founded in 1957 to focus on the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources.
