Presentation transcript:

MM212 Final Project Overview Professor Lea Rosenberry

 As you have most likely discovered, this class emphasizes how math is used in real life situations. This theme will continue for the Final Project where you will create a five-page paper or a five-slide presentation that details how you will use math in your future profession. Final Project

 Page or Slide 1: This is your title page. Include your name, project title, the course number, section number, and the date.  Page or Slide 2: Introduce your future profession by giving an overview. Explain what your future profession is, what type of job you would like to get, and what responsibilities you will have. Write your overview as if you are explaining your job to someone who has no idea what you will be doing.  Page or Slide 3: Identify a concept from the course and explain how it will be used in your profession. Give an example to illustrate the concept.  Page or Slide 4: Identify a SECOND concept from the course and explain how it will be used in your profession. Give an example to illustrate the concept.  Page or Slide 5: This is your reference page. List three resources that you used in creating your presentation. Because you are using concepts covered in class, your textbook should be included as one of your resources. Requirement for Each Slide

 This course does not teach Word or PowerPoint. Make sure you choose a format you are familiar with.  Proofread your work carefully. Use Standard American English, and make sure your paper or presentation is grammatically correct and does not contain spelling errors. Strive to display exceptional content, organization, style, and mechanics. Use the APA style for all citations. There should be no plagiarism in your paper or presentation. Consider submitting your Final Project to the KU Writing Center for feedback. They will look at your project with a fresh viewpoint and give you excellent tips for your Final Project and for your writing in general.  Submit your Final Project to the Unit 9 DropBox for grading. Your Final Project is due by 11:59 PM ET on the Tuesday of Unit 9.  Share your paper, or presentation, at the Math Fair in Unit 10. Use the opportunity to show how math will be used in your profession and discover how math will be used in other professions. Other Guidelines

 To give you a head start on your Final Project and to make sure to head off any problems before they happen, you are going to begin your Final Project in Unit 7. In Unit 7, you will complete the Math Application Project in which you will identify two concepts from your course that can be applied to your future profession. Unit 7 – Final Project Part 1

 Choose a concept and explain what the concept is.  Explain how the concept will be used in your future profession.  Give a mathematical example of how the concept will be used in your future profession. You are going to “Do the Math.”  You are going to identify two concepts that will be used in your future profession, so do Steps 1 – 3 above for each concept.  When complete, submit your work to the Unit 7: Final Project Part 1 Dropbox.
