Westward Expansion

Objectives – 9/6 IWBAT identify key aspects of the American West by analyzing photographs, pictures, and maps. Drill What comes to mind when you think of “THE AMERICAN WEST”?

Topic: Westward Expansion Preview Identify major concepts and persons that encompass the entire unit on Westward Expansion. (H) SWBAT analyze the economic and environmental factors that influenced the settlement of the American West.

Drill (Only write what’s underlined) Pretend you live in St. Louis, Missouri in the year 1868. Recently, you hear word that the government is offering 160 acres to anyone that uproots their family and settles in the Nebraska Territory. Only catch is they provide you nothing but the land. You decide that you can raise $120 if you sell your property and small business. PROMPT: Would you leave all that you know behind in search of land? Why or Why not?
