Mary Queen of Scots [ ]

Life in Scotland Mary was born at Linlithgow Palace on 8 th December 1542.Her mother was Mary of Guise, her dad was James V.

Voyage to France Mary was transported to France to escape Henry VIII. She was Very young and didn’t Want to leave her Mother behind. She went with a fleet of French ships.

1 st Marriage When Mary landed in France, she was treated well. She fell in love with Francis, the Dauphin. They married in Notre Dame Cathedral on the 24 th April, 1558.

Queen of France Unfortunately, the king of France died during the marriage celebration and Mary became queen. Shortly afterwards, Francis died of an ear infection.

Back to Scotland Mary’s return to Scotland was wet and wild. It rained for 2 days before she arrived and 2 days afterwards. By this time, Scots had begun to question the catholic religion.

John Knox  When Mary was back in Scotland people began to question the Catholic religion. At the head of this was John Knox. Mary was forced to pray on her own in a particular church.

Henry Darnley  Mary’s 2 nd marriage was to Henry Darnley. More and more people hated Mary. Eventually, when Darnley murdered Mary’s secretary, David Rizzio, Mary lost all love for Henry. Then, one night, when Mary was at a ball, the house Darnley was in blew up. Many people suspect Mary for the death.

Earl of Bothwell  When Mary married yet again, it was to the Earl of Bothwell. This was the last straw for the people.

The Death of Bothwell  When Bothwell died, he was tied to a post half his height, forcing him to bend forward. He grew hairs the size of cat whiskers and eventually died.

Mary’s Death  Mary's death was tragic.it took three swings before Mary's head was soon rolling along the ground. It happened in Fotheringy Castle.

MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS POEM Mary was born in December It was a birth to remember She left for France at the age of five On a ship that would never dive Mary married the French Dauphin But he died of an ear infection When she returned to her homeland John Knox had formed a Protestant band Her second marriage was to a blood curdler When Rizzio died Darnley was the murderer Darnley died in the Kirk o’ field When the house blew up his fate was sealed

Castles  Kings and Queens always lived in castles. The main part of the castle was the donjon, a huge hall with private rooms for the lords family. The weakest part of the castle was the gate so it was defended by a drawbridge and a small building called a barbican. The attackers would have to capture this before assaulting the castle.

Mary Queen of Scots Poem Mary was a queen As you have seen Her birth was great And soon she found a mate She became Queen of France When she lost her romance When she returned to homeland By then John Knox had formed a protestant band He tried to get her of the throne But Mary was as strong as bone The axe had used three swings Until her head and heart stings
