The National History Day Project

What is the National History Day Project? It is a primarily at home project where you will be researching a topic in history based on a theme and then present your research in a historical paper, exhibit, documentary (movie), web site or performance.

Leadership- and Legacy Leadership– a person who guides or directs a group

Leadership- and Legacy Legacy– anything handed down from the past. Anything left for future generations. What was his legacy?

Abraham Lincoln  Kept the country together during a time of rebellion.  Successfully led Congress to pass the 13 th Amendment, essentially making slavery illegal.  Is considered America’s best President.

Using what the both of you discussed, write a list of the three examples that had the most meaningful legacy and be able to explain why you chose those as the three best.

Leadership and Legacy in History Your project must contain both elements of the theme. The leadership does not have to leave a positive legacy in history. This project is not meant to be a biography, the most important part of the project is to focus on the legacy. The project does not have to be about one leader, you can choose to complete your project on various leaders who left the same legacy.

Queen Elizabeth I The legacy left behind by the leader of a country. Queen Elizabeth I is widely considered England’s greatest monarch. You could discuss how her leadership impacted England.

NAACP The legacy left behind by a group. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People led the fight for civil rights and is a major reason the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed.

Steve Jobs The legacy left behind by the leader of a company. Steve Jobs founded a company that changed the way Americans compute, listen to music, communicate with each other and on and on.

John Locke The legacy left behind by a philosopher. John Locke was a thinker who pioneered such ideas as Natural Law, freedom of religion and freedom of thought.

How do I choose a topic?
