Welcome to the BSL Centre For many years Heathlands has been a recognised centre of excellence in the field of the education of deaf children with a reputation for outstanding and innovative practice. This led to Heathlands’ achievement of Specialist School Status in September 2008, the first school for deaf children using sign language to be awarded this accolade. Becoming a Specialist SEN College allowed a new state of the art training centre to be established. It is designed and equipped with superb ICT facilities and a wide range of other resources to support Deaf awareness and the learning of BSL. The Centre was opened by Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham Kt. On 4th June 2009 who has been a great supporter of the school. With the establishment of our BSL training centre Heathlands expertise, experience and facilities can be shared with our partner schools and the community. Heathlands BSL Centre is an active participant in natural developments around the teaching of sign language. The services we offer are continually being extended to meet the increasing demand from our community partners. We welcome your ideas and suggestions on how we can develop further and look forward to seeing you on one of our courses soon.
