IP-refers to creations of the mind; which consist of inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. -Types of IP include: patents (for new or improved products and services) trade marks (for logos and brands) industrial design (for the shape or appearance of a product) new plant variety copyright (including software, databases, and other copyright works), and trade secret (know how) WHAT IS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP)? © All Rights Reserved UKM-CCI 2014

University’s policies in relation to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) arising from research, innovation and creative output, and the management and commercialisation of such IPs. This Policy applies to all Students ‘Student’ means registered student of UKM. ‘Associate Student’ means non-UKM Student supervised by academic staff of UKM. UKM STUDENT’S IP POLICY © All Rights Reserved UKM-CCI 2014

Student(s) to assign (serah hak) in writing, the IPR to UKM, when : a)the Student(s) is an Employee of UKM; b)the Intellectual Property is created, developed or otherwise generated using the facilities, material, funds or other resources owned by UKM; CLAUSE 4.2 – IP Assignment © All Rights Reserved UKM-CCI 2014

c) the Intellectual Property is created with the support and under the supervision of Employees of UKM; d)the Intellectual Property belongs to a research team whose members are Employees of UKM; or e)the Intellectual Property is commissioned or created under direct request of UKM. UKM also requires Student(s) to assign in writing the IPR to UKM, when the research projects or activities: a)are funded by any research grant in which UKM has contractual obligations; b)revolves around pre-existing Intellectual Property owned or licensed to UKM; or c)has Commercial potential. Any IPR created by a Student with Other Financial Assistance shall be governed by the terms of the financial assistance agreement. UKM will name all researchers involved in the Inventor’s List including students. CLAUSE 4.4 – IP Ownership © All Rights Reserved UKM-CCI 2014

Refer to Clause 4.4 (pg. 83)  IPR shall be governed by the terms of the financial assistance agreement.  Ownership of IPR must name all researchers (including Students) involved in the Inventors’ List.  Clause 6 (pg. 84) – all Originators of UKM Intellectual Property, including Students, will receive a share of the income derive from the commercialisation of the Intellectual Property.
