Outline Guiding principles of program assessment Generic steps in program assessment Assessing communication skills

Guiding principles Program assessment isn’t something you get done; it’s something you get on with doing. In most cases, the best program assessment involves embedded assessment. Program assessment data belong to the faculty; they are not to be forcibly used for personnel evaluations of any type. The process is the outcome.

Generic steps in program assessment (1 of 2) Articulate program goals / expected competencies. Identify places in the curriculum where competencies are developed. Adapt / develop tools & scoring rubrics.

Generic steps in program assessment (2 of 2) Collect and analyze artifacts using rubrics. Dialogue about results and their implications. Start the process again.
