Why We Quote When using PIE/PEA, the best way to include the text evidence for your point is to use a quote from the text itself. Or both. Though “Yonatan had a brilliant idea for a documentary,” he had a harder time carrying it out (Keret 3). Even though “Sergei Goralick doesn’t much like strangers banging on his door,” he also does not like being alone (Keret 5). Sometimes, late at night, I would lie awake and “blow out the stars,” just like Peter Pan (Hook).

Citing, or Giving Credit Give credit to who wrote/said the original quote at the end of the sentence, not immediately after the quote. USE: Parentheses, Author’s last name, page number, close parentheses, end punctuation. (Singleton 6).
