Appropriate for the early years? Many early childhood educators exclude social justice issues from their teaching because: Feel the concepts are developmentally inappropriate; Want to protect children’s innocence; Think children are indifferent to social, economic and political events. How do you encourage global citizenship in your service?
Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes 1. Children have a strong sense of identity sense of agency, interact with care, empathy and respect. 2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world. Understanding of rights and responsibilities, respond to diversity with respect, become aware of fairness, become socially responsible Hygiene education. National Quality Standard Element Curriculum decision making contributes to each child’s learning and development outcomes in relation to their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators. Element Each child’s agency is promoted, enabling them to make choices and decisions and to influence events and their world Element Sustainable practices are embedded in service operations.
National Quality Standard Element Children are supported to become environmentally responsible and show respect for the environment. Element Each child is supported to work with, learn from and help others through collaborative learning opportunities. Element Each child is supported to manage their own behaviour, respond appropriately to the behaviour of others and communicate effectively to resolve conflicts.
