Hyde Park Population Total: 2,668 Ethnicities 85% African American Alone 14% White Alone 1%Two or More Ethnicities Employment: Average Household Income $42,464 Unemployment Rate: 44% Housing: 66% Renter Occupancy 34% Home Owner Occupancy 54% Homes Occupied Safety: Hyde Park is safer than 30.1% of St. Louis neighborhoods

Background Study of Salisbury Park Area of Hyde Park Contracted by Hyde Park Housing Corporation Identified each Parcel, Ownership and Condition Met with Stakeholders Met with BLC Board

Bricks & Mordred Redevelopment Plan Approved by Ald. Bosely LCRA blighted, 10 year- tax abatement, eminent domain Board of Alderman approved ordinance Prepared for change Implementation 4 MHDC Application were approved = 96 single family homes Loan repaid with each project Home- ownership

Background Sun Ministries came to Hyde Park in 2009 A Missions Organization relocating missionaries to the neighborhood Looking to take the underprivileged in the area and help them become employed, more skilled and educated, and home owners.

Plan of Action Not a programmed approach "whatever it takes" to get results approach Employs people from the neighborhood who have been homeless, addicted, incarcerated or face serious employment Housing provided for some participants. Missionaries work with the participants to overcome obstacles. Missionaries are taught to Pastor the community - fix what we see broken - includes utilizing existing city services, organizing volunteer groups, utilizing community space to build relationships.

Through collaboration, advocacy, engagement and evaluation, Links will work to connect a “village” of support around individuals and families desiring opportunities for a better tomorrow.

Plan of Action Being a community catalyst for community re- development Methods: Communities meetings, Focus Groups, Surveys, Interviewing Stakeholders of the Community. Highlighting Community Assets/ Talents & Identifying Gaps Engagement in Transient Populations - Building Informal Relations -Connect Services (Micro& Macro) -Constant follow up and through Board Directors ( 60% Local 40% Regional Advisory

Goals “Link the fabrics, essential to neighbors/ community stakeholders, who want to own their community as a place they live, learn, work and play.” 1.End the isolation of individuals in disinvested neighborhoods. 2. Knit together existing support systems into a more effective delivery system. 3. Foster support from existing community leaders and networks. 4. Identify the true needs of the individuals that make up the community through one-on-one interviews and ongoing conversation
